61st FAENZA Prize

The exhibition displays the works selected at the most important contemporary art competition dedicated to ceramics

19 June - 1 November
Opening Friday 19 June, at 18:00

The 2020 edition of Faenza Prize, the most important competition of Contemporary Ceramic Art in the world, promises to be truly international and increasingly an indicator of today ceramic.

The Jury selected the 58 finalists who will compete in the 61st  edition. Unlike previous editions, each artist this year could present only one work instead of three.

There were 539 entries from 62 different nations, practically a third of the states of the world. Among the numerous participations, there were artists from territories with a strong ceramic vocation that have established close relations with the MIC: they are China, France, Japan, Germany, the Netherlands and the United States.

This edition focuses in particular on installations and sculptures. It has seen a surge in the participation of young people under 35: they have been 137, of whom only 23 were selected for the final competition.

402, on the other hand, have been the participants in the category over 35, of which 35 were admitted to the competition.

In mid-May the Jury (composed by Irene Biolchini, guest curator MIC Faenza; Frédéric Bodet, contemporary art historian; Claudia Casali, director MIC Faenza; Alberto Salvadori, director ICA Milan; Judith Schwartz, Professor Emeritus New York University; Ranti Tjan, director EKWC) will meet to select the winners.

On June 19th there will be the Award Ceremony together with the official opening ceremony of the exposition devoted to the 58 finalist works. The exhibition will be on display until November 1.

A unique opportunity for the public to enjoy a complete picture of the most interesting international artistic research that now are involving ceramics.   "The Faenza Prize is the longest biennial of contemporary art dedicated to ceramics.  - comments Claudia Casali, director of the MIC Faenza - and compared to other competitions in which I have been asked to be part of the jury, Faenza always stands out for its very high level of quality".
