1 October 2020 - 19 January 2021

The MIC of Faenza dedicates to Alfonso Leoni (1941- 1980) an anthological exhibition, curated by Claudia Casali, Director of the MIC, with the aim of analyzing the rich and intense production of the artist from Faenza, dedicated not only to ceramics but also to the different languages of contemporary art (painting, graphics, design, sculpture). An exhibition unique in its kind, which aims to read in an unprecedented way an absolute protagonist of contemporary art, who died prematurely.

His life is closely linked to the city in which he lived, starting from his studies at the Ballardini Art Institute, where he became professor of Plastic Arts in 1961. Fundamental was the relationship with the artist Angelo Biancini, another historical teacher of the Institute - first known as a teacher, and of whom he became a fundamental collaborator. Despite the many awards he received - including the Faenza Prize in 1976, his activity was a continuous search for new stimuli and experimentation with different art languages. In addition to his intense artistic career, he began collaborating with industry, first with the Maioliche Faentine, then with the German Villeroy & Boch and Rosenthal, who immediately recognized his talent, providing ateliers and assistants to realize his innovative ideas.

The exhibition at the MIC is a unique opportunity to get to know, or deepen, the figure of an absolute protagonist of the national and European art scene.
