PAIR
OF JUGS WITH TRILOBATE MOUTHS

Height, 22 cm.
(left-hand jug); 20,5 cm (right-hand jug).
Majolica, Faenza, 14 th century.
Found in: Faenza, excavation (1958)
Condition: fragmentary, and with small repairs.
Inv. nos. 17133, 11349.
The jug on the left with
the pyriform or pear-shaped profile has a band of braiding at the
rim, and another strip round the middle decorated with smail arches
enclosing painted plant motifs. The right-hand vessel, in the form
of a double frustum, has horizontal bands containing zoomorphic
and phytomorphic designs made to stand out from the white background
by a lattice-work fill-in technique.
