| GOBLET
WITH A BOSS AND MOULDED SURFACE ("CRESPINA")

Dm.
39 cm.
Majolica.
Faenza, workshop of Virgiliotto Calamelli, c. 1575.
Condition:
good.
Inv. n. 21156/c.
On the central boss is the compendiary style figure
of a young knight, with a classic plumed helmet (he may be the very
popular Roman soldier Marcus Curtius, mentioned earlier goblet with
flattened rim), against a background of soft pure white enamelling;
on the inside of the gobblet's foot is the monogramme "VR.FA."
(Virgiliotto di Faenza); this goblet is a characteristic example
of great quality, of the art of the so called Faenza "whites".
