- Art. 1 - General rules for the granting of loans

In addition to the rules imposed by current laws protecting objects of archaeological, artistic and similar interest, no object or work of art may be removed from the museum, even temporarily, for any reason whatsoever and by anyone without the authorisation of the President, in agreement with the Management. Regarding the loan of pieces belonging to museum collections for exhibitions both in Italy and abroad, the MIC may grant, with the necessary consent, the loan of objects and works of art.
Nevertheless, considering the fragility of the ceramic materials and the risks to which they are exposed during removal and transportation for exhibitions, the works of the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza will be loaned only for exhibitions of substantial scientific value and cultural importance, whether on a national or international level. Loans will not be granted to public or private corporations that do not apply the principle of mutual collaboration, i.e. that are not willing in turn to contribute, including with the loan of pieces, to exhibitions supervised by the Town Council of Faenza through the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche.
The applying corporation must furnish specific guarantees regarding the safety for the public, in compliance with the law, of the rooms in which the exhibition will be held, the guarding of these rooms during opening hours, and the activation of efficient and effective anti-theft and fire protection systems during closing hours. It must also guarantee that the exhibition structures are suitably designed to ensure the prevention of damage to the works or the theft of the same by sleight of hand, through the used of display cases fitted with anti break-in systems. It remains understood that norms regarding good conservation of the works must be observed, in relation also to the maintaining of a correct microclimate. The Museum management may request that an inspection be carried out prior to granting the loan in order to verify these guarantees. The standard practices of good conservation must also be observed.
Lastly, in the exhibition, the applying corporation must indicate the loaned works as belonging to the collections of the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza, and, in the realisation of the exhibition in the catalogue and any posters or pamphlets that may be printed, the Museum’s collaboration must be mentioned (in an adequately visible way); two copies of these publications must be sent to the Museum management and, in the case of the catalogue, added to the bibliographic material.

- Art. 2 - Time limits and conditions

All applications for loans for exhibitions or cultural events must be received by the Management of the M.I.C. at least six months prior to the requested collection of the works, for events held in Italy, and nine months prior to said collection, for events held abroad, in order to allow time for the accurate and necessary procedures of authorisation from the relative Monuments and Fine Arts Office and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities.
Loan applications must include:

- scientific project
- facility report
- declaration by corporation applying for loans that at the end of the exhibition the works will be returned (for exhibitions abroad)
and must indicate clearly:
- title, location and length of exhibition
- invoicing details

- Art. 3 - Conditions for the removal, packing and transportation of the objects

The objects of the Museum may be removed, temporarily and for the maximum length allowed by current laws, according to set conditions and after taking the necessary precautions, only with the authorisation of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and against the presentation, by the organising Body, of a specific ‘nail-to-nail’ insurance policy including a damages compensation clause covering up to 80% of the depreciation of the selling value of the object in case of damage. The insurance value of each object shall be defined by the Director of the MIC.
The consignment of the works may take place only after receipt of the relative policy.
The operations regarding the packing and transportation of the loaned objects must be performed by specialised persons or companies that are able to furnish all the guarantees necessary for safeguarding the objects. Any exceptions must be arranged with the Director of the MIC, who may also prescribe the use of specific types or conditions of packing in relation to the characteristics of the objects to be loaned.
All packing operations, whether carried out inside or outside the Museum, must be done in the presence of a specialist appointed by the Director.
For each individual event the Director of the Museum may establish (and the applicant must accept) special conditions, according to the state of the objects – display methods, lighting, etc.
A person appointed by the Director of the M.I.C. must be present at the exhibition to oversee the operations relating to the unpacking and placing of the objects in the display cases before the exhibition and the operations of removal and repacking at the end.

All objects must be returned, after prior notice (fax 0546/27141; e-mail: restauro@micfaenza.org) of at least 3 days, between the hours of 8.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. to the staff of the Restoration Laboratory who, on receiving the returned goods, will check their state of conservation.

- Art. 4 - Costs charged to the Applicant

The corporation applying for the loan, in case of acceptance, will be charged the following costs:
a) for events organised in Italy, a lump sum of € 110.00 + VAT to be paid to the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza-Fondazione for administrative costs, plus € 30,00 + VAT for each object requested as compensation for the costs of handling and maintenance;
