ENZO CUCCHI
5 December 2010 - 13 February 2011

The exhibition at the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza and dedicated to one of the protagonist of the contemporary art, is the first of the artist exclusively devoted to ceramics.

Enzo Cucchi is one of the Italian artists who mainly obtains international honour. His creations, developed inside the Trans-vanguard movement, are characterized by a deep expressive expressionism, often devoted to subjects and landscapes of his country of origin (Marche region).

Since the beginning of his work Cucchi has used ceramics as insert in his paintings. Ceramics has become more and more important allowing the artist to transfer his iconographic subjects into sculpture.

Dogs, cocks, cypresses, hills, caves, clouds, skulls, country graveyards, bells, crosses, sheep, houses and bulls, represent a great part of Enzo Cucchi’s iconographic repertoire.

Some central subjects in his works are without time and history and reveal us that the most important things are just the unfulfilled and ineffable ones.

In Cucchi’s creations pictures and sculptures are not the final goal but instruments, collection of energy, occasion for contacts and relations, always on the point of a change or affirmations followed by contradictions. No more orientations, not privileged directions, no more distinctions, no hierarchy; the punishment is falling down in the so called “mere decorative” work.

The exhibition at the MIC Foundation shows some pictures containing ceramics and forty sculptures made of earthenware both glazed and painted, middle and big sized, where the figurative elements become distorted and extreme, following the interior urgencies of the artist.

The catalogue, edited by Umberto Allemandi Editore, shows the ceramic history of the artist, including the installations and the monumental works.

The exhibition and the catalogue, by Franco Bertoni, have been supported by the Foundation Cassa di Risparmio di Ravenna
