Achille Farina, Wall oval
Faenza, 1876, engobed, painted and glazed ceramic
Deepening
Achille Farina, an artist of extraordinary talent, was the leader of the lively Faentine season of “painting on ceramics”. The large oval medallion depicts the artist’s self-portrait, as indicated by the legend on the left “Achille Farina/ ritrattò se stesso./ Faenza/ 1876”, painted in sanguine technique in red-brown. The artist proved to be a true master of portraiture for his exceptional ability to give the faces portrayed on ceramic an intense and profound expressive charge.
