The MIC-International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, in correspondence with two of the most important fairs dedicated to ceramics in Italy (Cersaie in Bologna and Tecna in Rimini), is showcasing the work of five major ceramic companies presenting surfaces designed by internationally renowned designers.
The 2024 edition is special because it develops as an appendix from the successful exhibition “Gio Ponti. Ceramiche 1922-1967”-current at MIC Faenza until Oct. 13-and brings to the exhibition some surfaces designed by Gio Ponti himself along with works ideally influenced by the legacy of the great Italian architect. Bardelli Ceramics rediscovers from its archives a series of projects designed by Gio Ponti himself in the 1920s and 1950s: the “House of the Ephebes” Collection, a decoration for ceramic objects, re-proposed in the surfaces; the “Women on Flowers” series a set of female figures lying among flowers against a background of intense color; that of “The Classical Conversation,” the classically inspired decoration that was made on ornamental vases, urns and small knick-knacks; the “Costumes” series, which consists of 24 different subjects selected from the sketches designed by Gio Ponti; and finally “Hundred Letters,” a selection of the letters that the architect-designer-painter Gio Ponti made in the 1950s.
Ceramica Francesco De Maio is exhibiting three of its exclusive collections, “Blu Ponti,” “Puntini” and “Carpet,” testifying to excellence and innovation in hand-decorated ceramics.
The works on display embody the elegance and craftsmanship that have always distinguished Francesco De Maio.
An opportunity to discover and appreciate the talent of Master Decorators and prestigious Designers, from Gio Ponti to Alessandro Mendini to Giuliano Andrea dell’Uva, who have created extraordinary works. LEA Ceramiche showcases the innovative research of “Pigmenti,” born from the collaboration with Ferruccio Laviani, and the “Segni su Pigmenti” capsules, linked to it and signed by Laviani himself.
While the former interprets the primordial function of ceramics – pure material at the service of color – in 12 different color variants with contemporary tones, “Segni su Pigmenti” declines the palette in a decorative sense, superimposing imperfect lines and brushstroke drops that become textures with material relief. Marazzi, rediscovers “Triennale, design Gio Ponti – Alberto Rosselli.”
In 1960, Marazzi commissioned the prestigious Ponti Fornaroli Rosselli studio to design a new ceramic tile.
Gio Ponti, with the contribution of Alberto Rosselli, conceived a design piece that had nothing to do with the traditional square or rectangular tile.
Simple, elegant and “four times curved,” “Triennale”-the name was inspired by the 12th International Exhibition of Decorative and Industrial Arts in Milan where it was presented-resembles the piece of a children’s puzzle and immediately became an icon of Italian design, still in production today. Mutina presents new collections “Adagio” and “Osso & Bottone” entirely designed by French designer Ronan Bouroullec seen in preview at Milan Design Week 2024.
The silhouettes of “Osso & Bottone” create an evocative interplay of solids and voids.
The result is an optical vibration capable of blurring the original geometries and opening a dialogue between the collection and the natural world it faces.
“Adagio” is a project consisting of a series of ceramic modules designed to be assembled to generate scenic wall sculptures.
The lattice structure is reminiscent of the weave of a fabric, the three-dimensionality of which is made evident by the overlapping of the elements.
Opening September 13, 6 p.m.   The exhibition is made possible thanks to the support of Cersaie, Sacmi and Tecna. Under the patronage of the General Directorate for Education, Research and Cultural Institutes, Emilia Romagna Region, Municipality of Faenza, Union of Municipalities of Romagna Faentina
