Filippo Comerio, Pair of Amphorae

Faenza, Ferniani Factory, 1777-1781, maiolica

Deepening

Lombard painter with a marked artistic versatility, Filippo Comerio was active in the city of Faenza from the end of 1776 to 1781 where, collaborating with the Ferniani Factory, he made excellent and unequalled majolica. The two elegant amphorae, with their typical neoclassical shape, are painted “a piccolo fuoco” in black and gold, with a decoration animated by mythological scenes and enchanting figurines quickly sketched with the tip of the brush.
