Galileo Chini, Sample panel
Borgo San Lorenzo, 1898-1920 ca.
Deepening
Liberty ceramics found in Galileo Chini one of the greatest exponents. A multifaceted artist, very young he founded the “Arte della Ceramica” factory in Florence in 1896, radically changing both the decoration in a modernist sense with “Pre-Raphaelite” overtones, and the technique and forms. He also proposed new ideas for external coverings and furnishings, of which the sample book on display provides an exhaustive list. The panel shows samples of both the “Arte della Ceramica” factory and the production of the “Fornaci S. Lorenzo” founded in 1906 by Galileo together with his cousin Chino, in Borgo San Lorenzo.
