Caltagirone, mid-century XX

Deepening

Since ancient times, oil lamps have been the most common means of lighting. Over the centuries, various types of oil lamps and candlesticks were made to help illuminate the inside of houses. Among these are the oil lamps with human figures that distinguished the production of Caltagirone. Men and women, peasants and bourgeois, brigands, guards and monks were modeled in large quantities, with extraordinary skill by Sicilian ceramists.
