Mimmo Rotella, Schweppes tile series
1974-1975
Deepening
Like a blank canvas, ceramic tile allowed artists to create contemporary works of art. This is the case of the painter and artist Mimmo Rotella, who created the “Schweppes” series of tiles for the Cedit company in Milan in the 1970s, inspired by the world of Pop Art, using advertising images. Ceramic wall or floor coverings could be composed of tiles with a repetitive module, of designs combined through the union of several tiles or of tiles with plastic inserts in relief.
