The general renewal of the decorative arts that took place with the start of the Baroque season also involved ceramic production, which, driven by the successful production of “whites”, began the search for new sumptuous shapes inspired by silverware. The sumptuous refreshment bowl in the form of a small boat with pods is characterised by the typical lapis lazuli blue glazemaiolica “turquoise”maiolica ), produced by the Castelli workshops in the late sixteenth century and embellished by a minute decoration with gilded phytomorphic motifs and white threading. On the sides of the maiolica is the coat of arms of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese (1520-1589).
