Library

Our library is a precious reference point for researchers, scholars, artists, students and art critics. It owns about 68,000 volumes and pamphlets dedicated to ceramics and art in general. It also houses the Ceramic Photo Library, commissioned by the MIC founder Gaetano Ballardini in 1927, as a tool for the iconographic documentation of ceramic works held in public and private collections all over the world.

Access

The Library is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9am to 1pm, by apointment only

Closed from December 23 to January 10.

Services for the public

The reader will find a desk and the support of the staff to whom he or she can turn to:

  • bibliographical and other information on ceramic heritage and collections
  • assistance in searching through various types of catalogue
  • consultation data-base
  • photocopies (white/black and colours)
  • not allowed the external loan.

Library editorial news

The specialised library of the International Ceramics Museum Foundation in Faenza constantly increases and enriches its documentary heritage with new acquisitions in order to offer scholars and enthusiasts bibliographic material on criticism, history, art and ceramics technology.

Through the catalogue of the Romagna and San Marino Library Network it is possible to consult the new pubblications available for the consultation at MIC.

Areas of Interest and Documentary Heritage

History of ceramics; applied arts and art in general.

The library has about 68,000 bibliographic units (volumes and pamphlets).
The library also holds historical and current publications and magazines related to ceramics technology.
Special collections: print editions of the centuries XVI-XVIII. Auction catalogues.
Magazines: over 380 ongoing, 600 discontinued.

The catalogue currently covers the library acquisitions from 1983 to the present day and is present in the Rete Bibliotecaria in Romagna and in the Sistema Bibliotecario Nazionale.

The activities of recovery of the retrospective catalogue are constantly progressing thanks to:

    for the years 2007-2010 e 2012-2013
  • Foundation Banca del Monte e Cassa di Risparmio Faenza
    for the year 2011

The International Museum of Ceramics Foundation in Faenza, by resolution of the Board of Directors n. 23/pr of 8/3/2006, approved the Rules of activities and Services of the Library of the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza.
